The King's Chickens and the Chicken Thieves
A Musical Tale for String Quintet (mp3)
nce
upon a time there was a king who forbade his subjects from eating
chickens.
To protect the Royal Fowl, all hens and roosters lived in the Royal
Chicken Coop. Everybody obeyed the king's order. And the chickens were
merry and gay. Until one day...
Thieves snuck onto the royal grounds. They entered the
kingly coop. The chickens stopped in their tracks. One of the burglers
lunged
for a delectible dish, but came up empty handed. The chickens
went crazy, running as fast as their legs could carry them,.The thieves
chased madly behind.
Just as the thieves becan to tire, one of the prized
poultry tripped. A thief grabbed it and down came the axe. Thwack!
Upon seeing their fallen freind, all the chickens were sad. Even the
thieves shed a tear.
Before the bandits could think about whacking another bird, the
King's Guards saw the foul burglers and ran to the rescue. Now it was
the chicken thieves who ran for their lives.
Back at the ranch, the air began to stir. A recent batch of eggs
moved and cracked. Before long, there were more chickens than ever
before.
And once again, the chickens were merry and gay.
And they all lived happily ever after. Except for the headless chicken.
And the headless thieves.
